#009 Topic: Project Turtleneck Revamp - COMPLETE!So here is the finished sweater: Doesn't Aaron look great in it? He really likes it, so I'm super happy! I'm sending in a copy of the pic to the Knit.1 blog so they can put it up in their reader gallery. *yay!* The only downfall about this revamp is that I live in a desert up and we've had quite a few 70* days so far this year, so it's not really sweater weather here... But that's ok! He'll be prepared when cold weather it's again! :D Actually, the weather is a double bummer because my poor scarf is still not complete. *cries* The mornings can be a bit chilly, but the days are warming up fast here. Now that the Revamp is over, the scarf is now top priority. It WILL get done- soon! I WILL wear the completed scarf before the weather gets and stays warm! *Go Team Me!* We're going over to my SIL's house tonight to babysit her babies, and since we're going over there late I'll have time for knitting! She's blessed with kids who tend to go to bed early, so she said we'll have an easy night. I plan on working hard tonight! Time for me to get some lunch! Later! Current mood: Excited

(Check out the website to see what it's about). I TOTALLY recommend to anyone who wants something silly and "laugh out loud" funny to watch. One of the characters, Chiyo-chan, was such a cute little girl, I had to make a pixel doll of her. Here she is: ![]() What do you think? Pretty cute huh? It's been... I don't know... two or three years since I've done any pixel art, so I'm a bit rusty but I think she turned out pretty well. Have a great night! Current mood: super content
Watching: 1up Show Listening: The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible Reading: Star Trek TNG "Contamination" wow I'm such a nerd! #007 // 02.28.07 Topic: Hat heartache - Please help! After some blog hopping today, I ran across this picture:
![]() Isn't is amazing?! I found it at this website. I love the way the ribbing gets shorter as it gets towards that back of the hat. Also, I really like way it fits on the head. What type of hat is it? A 'bucket' hat? (I'm not into hats at all, so my terminology on the styles of hats is, well, very bad.) Regardless, I think I'm in love with it. I think she found the pattern in a Japanese book, which is the cause of my heartache, because I would LOVE to get my hands on this pattern. Or maybe one close to it. Does anyone know of any hat patterns close to this? I've already gone through Knitting Pattern Central (with no luck), and googled for "bucket hat knitting pattern" (again- no luck). Or maybe does anyone have any tips or advice to recreating the ripping part of the hat? I think I'd be able to finish it using St st (for a practice hat), but it's the ribbing where I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around. OH! Maybe is the hat knit from the top down? That would make the ribbing easier... but wait. I don't think you'd be able to do those cables if you did it that way. :( Does anyone have have suggestions? If you do, please leave a comment in the shout box or email me at sarahATknitstressincDOTnet. Thank you! #006 // 02.27.07 Topic: KindnessReal quick: I added LOTS of links on the Links page- go check 'em out. I also added more info on the About page. I went to Hastings today to sell some old dvds, and I stood behind this older gentleman who was selling some books. Right on top of his bag of books I saw one that interested me: The "Discover" Science Almanac. I asked him if I could look at it, and we started talking about "Discover" Magazine. He said that since the store probably wouldn't give him much money for the book, I could have it. I insisted on paying for it, but he refused. How nice is that? I was thrilled to have such a neat book and he was so nice. *^_^* Progress on the sweater has ceased because I'm putting more work into the Vouge Scarf. I really want to wear it before the weather gets too warm. The weather here is being so finicky- it's fairly nice one day with blue skies and relatively warm weather, then the next is cloudy with high of 50*... I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more cold weather. Current mood: happy

The Jetta was having problem after problem, and I was sure it wasn't going to make it to work. Isn't the car so pretty? *^^* The revamp of the sweater is going great! While I was at my LYS I saw some beautiful yarn that I had to have to make the sweater. So I frogged it once again, rolled up the old yarn and put it away, and got to work with this new yarn. Instead of the orange/red/brown combination the pattern calls for, I'm going to do a blue/dark blue/grey combination that will look very flattering on my husband. (He looks SO handsome in dark blues). My husband and I had dinner with my family on Tuesday night and my dad told us about something that was very interesting. An ARMY buddy of his is doing a lecture on Verbal Judo in Portland pretty soon. Taken from the website, Verbal Judo was: "Originally developed for law enforcement, Verbal Judo uses some of the key principles of Asian martial arts to help defuse potential confrontations. As in physical judo, the aim is to use an attacker's own energy as a tool to gain control of the situation. In the the case of Verbal Judo, the energy isn't physical, it's anger. When under verbal attack, one who has been taught Verbal Judo attempts to "harmonize" with the attacker, using empathy, understanding and subtle pressure to redirect the anger in a more positive direction. The goal isn't to win the argument, but to defuse the situation, ratchet down the confrontation level, and discover the issues underlying the anger." Working in retail, I often run into individuals who aren't the happiest of people. And lately, after babysitting a two-year-old who is hitting the "terrible two's" at full bore, my patience level isn't what I'd like it to be. I'm also horrible when it comes to confrontations- I don't always know how to handle it, so sometimes I'll say or do something that doesn't help the situation. >.< My dad plans on going to this lecture and I'd really like to go. My fingers are crossed that he'l l take me with him. I really think I'll learn a lot from it. :D So the wedding present for my friend, Thisbe, is done but I don't want to send just this present. What do you think I should send along with this gift? Any suggestions would be great! That's all for now- later! Current mood: full

![]() Isn't it so cute?! I used the yarn that the pattern called for: Sublime baby cashmere merino silk dk in "001 Piglet". I was surprised at how affordable this yarn was: $9.00! I would pay well over $9 to buy that bonnet retail. I have a good quarter of the ball left too, so I might be making more of the little flower that's on it just for fun. Today I'm going to tackle a project that is actually already completed. The Man's Striped Turtleneck from the Fall/Winter '05 issue of Knit.1 magazine, that I made for my husband, needs some work: ![]() It was knitted too loose and it needs to be about 6-7 inches longer. I need to refigure my gauge and frog whatever needs to be frogged. My husband really liked this sweater but it just didn't fit him, so I'm going to do my best to fix it! I'm apart of this knitting group on Myspace who wants to make blankets for hospitals. We started this group over year ago and our first project was to make squares and swap them for a blanket of our own to bind our group together- so to speak. Myself and one other gal (E from Craft of Destiny) were the only ones who finished our squares, so we sent each other our squares and look what she sent me: Two awesome arty magazines, stickers, an Ugly Doll key chain (E- I LOVE Ugly Dolls! How did you know?!), a card, and her beautiful squares. Thank you E so much! In all honesty, I was embarrassed when I saw her squares because mine are really bad compared to hers. *cries - I'm sorry E!* I really hope she likes what I sent her. I found some really neat/silly things I think she'll like. *crosses fingers* On an un-knitting note, I made Japanese Ramen the other night, and it was spectacular! My best ramen yet. Now, this isn't Top-Ramen or ramen out of a bag- no no no! This is real ramen- like the ramen we had on our honeymoon in Japan. Here's a pic of our delicious meal:
My husband loves chicken chow mein so I made that and peaches to each along with the ramen. Recently I learned that to make proper ramen, you top the noodles and broth with a chopped green onions and bean sprouts, each shaped like a mountain. Looks pretty good huh? It was SO rich and flavorful. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it lol!Well, it's nap time for this sick girl. TTYL! *^_^*v Entry #003 Topic: Super productive me!#003 Magic... it dissapeared... >.>#002 Topic: I'm trying hardYesterday morning I wiped up a little white skirt to wear over my jeans. I saw something similar to it in a Japanese pattern book, but it was crocheted. I used white Red Heart Baby Sport yarn and size 50 needles. It was a pretty easy and quick knit. I've also been working on the Vogue Knitting red braided scarf from the cover two issues ago. Hopefully it'll be done before all the cold weather goes away! Lol... I'd really like to wear it. The yarn I'm using is Cascade Yarns "Cloud 9", it's 50% wool / 50% Angora- mmm! So soft. #001 Topic: Testing! Testing!Just seeing how this site works. ^^ |
